Miller Learning Center- UGA Campus The University of Georgia Department of Mathematics and Math Club will be sponsoring a High School Mathematics Tournament on Saturday, October 21st, 2023 in the Zell B. Miller Learning Center on the UGA Campus. Each school may enter from one to three 4-student teams, who will compete in the usual written and ciphering rounds. (Fewer than four persons may compete as a team, with missing members being awarded scores of zero.) Individuals without a team can participate as well. Each school is limited to 3 teams or 12 students total—no exceptions REGISTER NOW! Participation Fee: $35/team $15/individual participant $5/(number of chaperones over 1) + $5 (if paid after October 7) After registering, you will receive an email with payment details.Payment includes breakfast and snacks but not lunch. All participants can have lunch at Bolton dining commons, which is across the street, for the modicum of $12.20 per person.The email will also include forms that need to be completed. SCHEDULE: · 8:00-8:45 Registration · 9:00-9:30 Ciphering · 9:40-11:10 Written test · 11:10-12:30 Lunch/Refreshments · 12:30-1:30 Team round · 2:00-2:30 Awards ceremony FORMAT The ciphering round will consist of 10 problems. 10 points will be awarded for each correct answer given in two minutes. The written test will consist of 25 multiple-choice problems of increasing difficulty, from relatively easy to very hard. 10 points will be awarded for each correct answer, 2 points for each question left unanswered, and 0 point for each incorrect answer. The final round will be a team collaboration, with a total of 200 points. No calculators will be allowed in any of the rounds. The individual winners will be determined on the basis of the first two rounds, and all three rounds will count towards the team competition. PRIZES The top five winners will get cash prizes, 100,100,80, 60,60,40 and $20 respectively. There will be also small prizes for other high-scoring individuals and best teams. PARKING The Miller Learning Center is located in the center of the campus, next to the Tate Student Center and UGA Bookstore, and across from Sanford Stadium. By car, it is best approached from South Lumpkin Street and there is a bus stop there to drop off the students. Parking is available at the nearby Tate Center Two, and across the street at Legion Pool (parking zone W06). Ample parking is available at the parking lot E01 near the Intramural Fields off College Station Road.
