Saturday, April 25 2026, 9:30am - 1:30pm UGA Boyd Research and Education Center The Department of Mathematics is hosting a Sonia Kovalevsky day on Saturday, April 25, 2026. This is an opportunity for all (6th, 7th, or 8th grade) middle school students to engage in a day of networking, mentoring, and fun! The event organizer is William Graham, Professor at the UGA Mathematics Department. The activity leaders for the events are: Barbara Remmers, Rishika Agrawal, Yukun Du, Byeol Han, Swaroop Hegde, Delaney Morgan The event is free. REGISTRATION: Complete the online registration form. Registration Deadline has passed. Download, complete, sign (by hand) and date the SK Day consent form (pdf file). E-mail the consent form to wag@uga.edu Registration deadline is April 23, 2026 Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email (to the email address of the parent/guardian you provide in the registration form), which will include further practical information. SCHEDULE: Tentative 9:30 - 10:00 am Registration and math games 10:00 -11:00 am Activity 1: Mathematical card tricks 11:00 - 12 noon Activity 2: Using error checking for mind reading 12-12:30 Lunch break: Pizza lunch will be provided 12:30-1:30 pm Activity 3: Fun with sorting algorithms Activity 1: Once you know the math behind these tricks, they are easy to remember and then you can shock your friends and family with your amazing abilities. Activity 2: Error checking is not only useful for sending information, but for developing your mind reading skills! Activity 3: The math around sorting is fundamental and also fun!
