Academic Advisor II for Mathematics

Dr. Wanda Johnson is passionate about working with students and helping them discover their strengths, explore new opportunities, and reach their goals. She brings over a decade of experience in higher education as both an academic advisor and an instructor, having taught first-year seminars, psychology, and other courses designed to support student success. Her commitment to students and the campus community has been recognized through several honors, including the 2023 Miller/Winston Research Award, the 2024 Outstanding Program/Initiative/Event Award from UGA Student Affairs, and the 2024 Dissertation of the Year Award from the Southern Association for College Student Affairs.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Georgia State University, a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration from Drexel University, and a Doctor of Education in Student Affairs Leadership from the University of Georgia. Her research focuses on the experiences of underserved students in higher education, with a special emphasis on belonging, community, and identity.

Dr. Johnson is excited to support the Department of Mathematics through her role in the Franklin College Office of Student Academic Services, where she advises mathematics majors and is committed to helping students grow both academically and personally. Outside of work, she values quality time with her husband, twins, extended family, close friends, and her sorority sisters.
