About me
My name is George Slavov. I am a second year graduate student at the University of Georgia pursuing a Ph.D. I was born and raised in Bulgaria, but came to the States to get my undergraduate degree in mathematics and computer science from Bowdoin College. After that I wanted to pursue a career in academia.
Interests
During my time at Bowdoin I participated in RoboCup, a worldwide robotics championship, with several fellow students. The goal was to program a standard robot to play soccer without human control during the game. The robot relied on a camera, embedded in its head, to perceive the world. The 30 frames-per-second video feed was then analyzed by the robot's built-in CPU in order to recognize the ball, the goals and other landmarks on the field.
Needless to say, a lot of math was required to perform the variety of problems which come up in this competition. While seeing the robots play was exciting, I found I admired the mathematics behind it more and more, so here I am.
