Strahan Award
January 26, 2011
Dear Colleague:
This spring semester the Department of Mathematics will award the thirty-fifth annual Charles M. Strahan Scholarship to the outstanding junior mathematics major. The scholarship will be in the amount of $900.00, to be awarded over the next two semesters the winner is enrolled.
To be eligible for nomination, a mathematics major must be a junior during spring semester, 2011, and must have completed at least two 4000-level mathematics courses by the end of fall semester, 2010. The winner will be selected primarily on the basis of evidence of scholarship in mathematics and secondarily on the basis of overall collegiate scholarship. The awardee must be a full-time student during the year 2011–12.
The Strahan Scholarship Selection Committee welcomes your nominations. We would appreciate your including as much relevant information as possible: your name and the full name of the nominee(s) are essential; the email address of the nominee(s) would be useful. Also feel free to include comments about the mathematical abilities of your nominee(s).
If you are teaching a course in which a potential nominee may be enrolled, please mention the scholarship award to your class. It should be noted, moreover, that any student may nominate himself. Please submit nominations to the chairman of the Scholarship Selection Committee by February 25, 2011.
Sincerely yours,
Ted Shifrin (chairman)
