Who Must Take MATH 8850 (VIGRE Research Group + VIGRE Seminar)?

The following groups of students are required to take MATH 8850 (both Fall and Spring semesters), which consists of the VIGRE Graduate Student Seminar on Tuesdays as well as participation in one of the VIGRE Research Groups:

1. First and second year PhD students.

2. First year MA students. (First year MAMS students must take at least one semester of MATH 8850, and a second semester is strongly recommended.)

3. Any student who is supported by a VIGRE stipend that year.

A graduate student may serve as the TA for an IVRG (Introductory VIGRE Research Group, targeted at undergraduates) in lieu of participation in an ordinary VRG.
